UPMC Vision Institute is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to join our comprehensive ophthalmology clinic located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. This full-time position offers daylight hours, Monday-Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with start times varying based on clinic schedules. Responsibilities include performing complete patient workups, including refraction, assisting with diagnostic testing and imaging such as OCT, fundus photography, corneal topography, A-scans, and visual fields, and supporting physicians and clinical flow with additional duties as assigned. The role may require up to 5% travel to other UPMC Vision Institute locations to support staffing needs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities:

History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -

Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.

Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.

Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Valid CPR certification

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
