Ophthalmic Technician- UPMC Vision Institute-Oakland

The UPMC Vision Institute is seeking a detailoriented, patientfocused Ophthalmic Technician to support our busy academic ophthalmology practice located in Oakland. In this role, you will work alongside our ophthalmologists, residents, and clinical team to help deliver worldclass eye care to patients of all ages.

This fulltime position offers MondayFriday daylight hours, with shift times ranging between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM depending on clinic needs. No evenings or weekends are required. Travel to additional clinic sitesapproximately 20% of the timeincluding Shadyside, Forbes, Monroeville, Mercy, St. Margarets, Wexford, Bethel Park, and Natrona Heights, is part of this role.

Responsibilities:

• History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
• Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
