General Description:

Responsible for leading the operations departments of 3 Packaging continuous flow baking lines while coordinating with Production, Sanitation, Shipping and Maintenance to ensure compliance with the highest standards of safety, food safety and quality throughout the plant. The Packaging Shift Manager shall be engaged in continuous improvement in order to drive increases plant efficiencies and units per man hour while decreasing waste in plant operations. Responsible to see all employees of the shift in Packaging receive on going training in safety, quality and food safety. Responsible to insure that the company complies with all AIB standards for GMPs, HACCP, Food Defense and BRC on a continual basis. Follows up to insure corrective action and full implementation is effectuated. Coach, counsel and train plant personnel in daily operations.

Job Requirements:

  • Direct and coordinate all operation activities within the Packaging while coordinating with sanitation and maintenance to ensure compliance with food safety standards, SSOPs, GMPs, HACCP, Food Defense and BRC. This includes extensive training for plant employees in each of these key areas to enforce a culture of food safety.
  • Support all GMP, HACCP, Food Defense and BRC related programs, policies and procedures including internal plant audits, monthly meetings and documentation of results.
  • Train new and existing employees using SOPs on proper technique and efficiencies
  • Must be able to learn and perform all job functions of the Department such as Sorting product, Operating a Bagger Machine, Traying Products, Opening and Closing orders.
  • Motivate employees to meet or beat quality, production, and safety metrics on a regular basis
  • Participate to the extent required in all food safety audits w/AIB, RIDOH and FDA and insure compliance w/all regulations.
  • Direct and coordinate all operations activities within the plant including all duties of Packing Supervisors and Line leads
  • Coordinate activities with maintenance manager / supervisor, Sanitation manager / supervisor, and Shipping manager / supervisor to ensure daily orders are completed.
  • Actively participate in weekly plant meetings to communicate plant performance and goals with supervisors and line leads
  • Develop line meetings agenda for supervisors to use for weekly line meetings
  • Maintain strict adherence to metal detector CCP’s, finished weights programs and documentation.
  • Ensure that all Food Safety Training is completed
  • Prepare reports and documentation to inform management of shift performance
  • Looks for operational changes (product, equipment, job functions, materials, etc.) to improve company KPI
  • Look for ways to continuously improve our compliance w/all food safety standards.

Job Qualifications:

  • Relevant college degree preferred, but not required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the food industry.
  • Demonstrable understanding of processing and packaging
  • Demonstrable understanding of HACCP, GMPs, and SOPs
  • Experience with GMP, BRC or SQF audits, AIB preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervising and managing personnel.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point; Excellent English written and verbal communication skills with fluency in Spanish a strong advantage.
  • Lead by example – promotes safety, quality, food safety culture.
  • Previous experience with ERP system a plus such as Microsoft Syteline.

Physical Requirements:

  • Bend to grasp objects and ability to climb ladders.
  • Bend and lift loads not to exceed 50 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds with assistance
  • Work in very hot temperatures (>90 degrees F) seasonally
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings and holidays
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment while being exposed to wheat flour and gluten.
