Supervise and instruct ophthalmology residents and technologist students. The Ophthalmic Medical Technologist participates in the care of patients in a clinic setting by: performing ophthalmic examinations, such as visual acuity, tonometry and lensometry, and performing diagnostic, technical and specialized testing, such as assessing extraocular muscle function and differentiating and measuring of ocular misalignment, placing patients in rooms, preparing patients for exams/procedures and providing patient/family support. Assures appropriate visit notes, test results prepared and are available for visit. Assisting and performing ophthalmic photography. Maintains clinic environment including supplies and equipment for specialized testing.
Responsibilities:Patients are examined in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Achieves: Demonstrates awareness of clinic schedule patient arrivals and departures. Places patients in rooms as they become available and prepares patient for physician exam by obtaining, but not limited to: Patient History, Visual acuity, Tonometry, Pupil function evaluation, Slit lamp examination. Facilitates room turnover and preparation Berwyn patients.
- Exceeds: Independently coordinates with team members to facilitate clinic flow. Is recognized as resource person. Identifies opportunities for increased efficiency in flow and patient visit preparation.
Verbal and written communication is clear, accurate and according to policy and regulations.
- Achieves: Uses appropriate communication techniques for patients served. Uses appropriate communication techniques when instructing and supervising resident and tech students. Chart documentation, for both patients and residents/tech students, are clear, accurate and legible.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the clinic by performing other related duties as may be required.
- Achieves: Assigned tasks are performed willingly and within the time frame as requested.
Instructs and supervises ophthalmology residents and students.
- Achieves: Provides instruction, guidance and lectures on, but not limited to visual field assessment, refraction, and A-scan and B-scan ultrasound evaluations. Assists director in supervising technology students and acts as a resource.
Assists physicians with therapeutic procedures and by performing diagnostic test utilizing specialized training including sterile technique. Patient care is provided in accordance with UFP and clinic specific policies and procedures.
- Achieves: Anticipates patient and provider needs during exams/procedures by obtaining and/or performing specialized procedures, such as: Automated and manual visual fields, Keratometry, A-scan and B-scan ultrasound, Lensometry, Retinoscopy and Refraction. Assures patient privacy and comfort during exams/procedures. Chart documentation is clear, accurate and legible.
- Exceeds: Identifies and participates in implementation of alternative ways to assist in clinic to improve efficiency. Is recognized as a resource person by peers.
All patient care is appropriate for the patient's age and developmental level.
- Achieves: Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care. Recognizes age appropriate behavior.
- Exceeds: Is recognized as a resource person by physicians and peers. Suggests treatment modalities to physicians, which are acted upon.

Qualifications:Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist: Graduate from a CAAHEP (2 year) accredited Ophthalmic technologist Training Program and 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work.
- Completion of annual continuing education credits.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Person should display initiative, has the ability to be multitasking and be able to take on responsibilities.
- Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.
- NON-Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist: Graduate from a CAAHEP (2 year) accredited Ophthalmic technologist Training Program and 60 semester hours of undergraduate course work.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist: Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist by the Joint commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology.
- Certificate in Basic Life Support.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation:
- Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose
