Description

Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a full-time Ophthalmic Assistant at our Layton B location.

Schedule:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
  • Assess refractive conditions of eyes, using an auto rotator.
  • Conduct visual field tests to measure field of vision.
  • Maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
  • Measure and record lens power, using lensometers.
  • Measure visual acuity, including near, distance, pinhole, or dynamic visual acuity, using appropriate tests.
  • Operate ophthalmic equipment, such as autorefractors, phoropters, tomographs, camera, OCT, or visual field machine.
  • Take anatomical or functional ocular measurements of the eye or surrounding tissue, such as axial length measurements.
  • Take and document patients' medical histories.
  • Assist physicians in performing ophthalmic procedures, including surgery.
  • Conduct binocular disparity tests to assess depth perception.
  • Measure corneal curvature with keratometers to aid in the diagnosis of conditions, such as astigmatism.
  • Performs initial patient exams, which includes: patient history, vision test, , dilation, and manifest refraction.
  • Performs automated and manual testing: corneal topography, autorefraction, visual fields, OCT, pachymetry, color vision tests and IOL Master.
  • Assists principal investigator and/or research coordinator with gathering appropriate documents and performing initial patient exams for clinical research.
  • Gathers, cleans, and distributes surgical instruments for in-office minor surgery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: High school diploma and certification from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or CMA willing to learn position and renewed COA status within two year.

Experience: Previous eye care assistance experience preferred.

Abilities:

  • Elicits appropriate information to route calls to the appropriate person.
  • Prevents, calms, or defuses irate callers and patients by working with them to identify concerns and properly directs calls.

Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves standing and walking approximately 90 percent of the day and sitting the remainder.
