Optician | $18-$22/hour (Based on Experience)

A Denison area eye clinic is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join their health care team. The Optician will play a vital role in assisting patients with their vision care needs by providing expert guidance on eyewear selection, fitting, and adjustments. This position involves collaborating with ophthalmologists and optometrists to ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with health care regulations such as HIPAA. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of ophthalmology, medical terminology, and optical systems, contributing to a professional, patient-centered environment that emphasizes quality care and exceptional service.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients in selecting appropriate eyewear based on their prescriptions, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences.
- Take precise measurements of patients’ vital signs and ocular parameters to ensure proper fit and function of eyewear.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation of prescriptions, vital signs, and patient interactions within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic.
- Conduct laboratory work related to lens fabrication and ensure adherence to aseptic techniques for safety and quality.
- Educate patients on optical products, lens options, and proper eyewear maintenance while promoting retail sales of eyewear accessories.
- Support ophthalmology or clinic staff by understanding medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and physiology relevant to eye health.
- Manage retail sales transactions accurately using retail math skills and handle inventory management efficiently.
- Assist in medical billing processes by understanding coding requirements related to ophthalmology services.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations when handling sensitive medical records and patient information.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to facilitate seamless patient care, including clinic experience and senior care considerations.
Requirements:
- Prior experience working in an optical retail environment or clinical setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, laboratory procedures, and EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to eye anatomy, physiology, and medical coding practices.
- Experience handling vital signs measurement and aseptic techniques in a healthcare setting.
- Background in retail sales combined with strong communication skills for engaging diverse patient populations.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and security of medical records.
- Previous exposure to medical billing processes within an ophthalmology or clinic environment is advantageous.
