The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting Per Diem opportunity for an Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) in Doral, Florida.

he Ophthalmic Technician 1 (OT1) is competent in the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The position perform s appropriate clinical testing in compliance with department standards and documents in the EMR system.

JOB FUNCTIONS

P erforms and documents the following items in the electronic medical record.

  • Reason for visit

  • T angent screen visual fields

  • Chief complaint

  • Basic ocular motility

  • History of present illness

  • Pupillary evaluation

  • Basic review of systems

  • Ocular surface assessment

  • Review systemic and ocular medications

  • Eye drop administration

  • Record allergies

  • Intraocular pressure such as Goldman, Tono-Pen, and I-Care

  • Pharmacy information

  • Pachymetry

  • Family, social, medical, and ocular history

  • Insertion and removal of hard & soft contact lenses

  • Visual acuity at distance and near

  • Color vision test

  • Lensometry

  • Stereopsis test

  • Manual refraction

  • Sensorimotor exam

  • Confrontational fields

  • Automated & manual perimetry

  • Humphrey visual fields

  • Virtual Reality (VR) visual fields

  • Amsler Grid visual fields

  • Provide s support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care .

  • Provide s patient-centric care.

  • Adhere s to University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training.

  • Compl ies with regulations and maintain s patient confidentiality.

  • Follow s best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control.

  • Attend s educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned.

  • Demonstrate s high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness.

  • Meet s daily productivity goals.

  • Ensure s all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.

  • Participate s in assigned clinical research and maintain s required certifications.

  • Organize s and stock s rooms for daily clinical activities.

  • Travel s to satellite eye centers when necessary.

  • Work s evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Performs organization al duties as assigned .

  • Complete s IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients.

  • Facilitate s motility exams.

  • Support s Virtual Care encounters and exams .

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

BLS (Basic Life Support)

Experience:

1 year of relevant experience

  • Displays b asic knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility.

  • Demonstrates a bility to perform the appropriate patient workup using the EMR telehealth platform.

  • Proficien t in Microsoft Office.
