Position Overview

The Ophthalmic Technician uses ophthalmic techniques to perform the preliminary work-up of patients,

assists the physician(s) during the patient examination and documents the patient encounter in the

patients' electronic medical record as communicated by the physician.

Promptly and professionally assists the doctor in patient care.

Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories and special testing.

Communicates with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, changes in

schedule, symptoms, surgery scheduling, etc.

Maintains and cleans all equipment being used and will report irregularities of such to the floor

monitor or immediate supervisor.

Instill Eye Drops

Clean and stock exam rooms as needed.

Check expiration dates on medications.

Reliable attendance and punctuality are an essential function

Accurately performs:

OCT

Tonometry with Perkins and Tonopen

Visual Acuity

Amsler Grid Testing

Muscle Testing

Pupil Exams

Confrontation Visual Field Exam

Attends staff meetings as required. When unable to attend will refer to the agenda and

meetings notes. Travel to other ARC locations may be required.

Education Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Certificate and Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Medical Assistant, or

Ophthalmic Scribe Certification. (If not certified must be willing to obtain OSC within 30 days of

hire)

Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English.

Must have the ability to work with culturally diverse people.

Requires excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills

Preferred Experience:

Six (6) months of progressively responsible outpatient or medical office experience that

demonstrates an understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Willing to train the preferred candidate.

Computer Skills:

Good computer skills. Able to navigate between screens: able to accurately enter data. Able to type 30

words per minute

Amount of Travel Required:

Traveling is required, and time may vary. May require sitting in a bus for up to 2.5 hours at a time.

Work Schedule:

To be determined by the needs of the practice Shifts can range anywhere between 8-14 hours. For the

Phoenix office, Saturday hours are a must. Will include some early evening hours as well.

Physical Demands:

Frequently Stand, Walk, Sit, reach above shoulder, Climb, Crawl, and Bend.

Lift and/or Carry 10-20 lbs.

Push/Pull 10-100 lbs.

Occasionally Squat or Kneel

Lift and/or Carry 20-50 lbs.

Note: Frequently- (Occupation requires this activity from 33%-66% of the time, anywhere from 2.5 -5.5+

hrs./day) and Occasionally- (Occupation requires this activity up to 33% of the time 0-2.5+ hrs./day)

Other Physical Requirements:

Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception)

Sense of Sound (normal range of hearing and vision)

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (gloves, face mask, eye shield, gown)

In an office environment with a controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients

with communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens
