Who You Are:

Amoskeag Health is seeking a full-time or part-time temporary Optometrist to provide comprehensive eye care services to patients of the health center. Responsibilities include examining, diagnosing, and treating vision and eye conditions, prescribing corrective lenses and medications, developing treatment plans, and referring patients for specialized care as needed. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide comprehensive eye care to patients of the Health Center including but not limited to:

  • Examine and diagnose vision problems and eye diseases

  • Test visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate the eyes

  • Prescribe eyeglasses

  • Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan

  • Prepares and reviews medical histories and obtains data through interviews.

  • Examines patients, formulates diagnostic plans, defines and orders/administers required diagnostic testing. Interprets examination findings and test results and implements treatment plans.

  • Administer topical and oral medications to patients to aid in the diagnosis of vision problems and prescribe medications to treat diseases of the eye, eyelids and adnexa, as permitted by the State of NH Optometry Practice Act; Test visual acuity, depth and color perception, and ability to focus and coordinate.

  • Refer for cataract surgery and other eye surgeries; Diagnose conditions caused by systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, referring patients to other health practitioners as needed.

  • Document office visits within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) according to protocol and to communicate appropriately with referring medical providers; Participate in the formulation and evaluation of applicable protocols. Ensure correct coding of services provided.

  • Provide direction to Optometry staff as assigned.

  • Adheres to professional standards, practice policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and regulatory standards.

  • Uses specialist equipment for diagnosis and testing.

What You'll Bring:

  • NH Board of Registration in Optometry
  • Licensed as a Doctor of Optometry
  • 1-2 years post-doctoral work experience as an Optometrist
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Experience working with culturally diverse demographic patient populations preferred
