Rosenthal Eye and Facial Plastic Surgery is offering several positions for highly qualified motivated individuals who are excited about working in a cutting edge eye surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery practice. We seek several dynamic individuals: one position is for an experienced motivated technician as described, the second position would be a position combining leadership administrative as well as clinical activities. The latter position requires at least three years of work experience and a COA certification (or eligibility) but prefer COT or COMT level training and experience in ophthalmology.

Successful candidates will be highly experienced and highly self-motivated to excellence. We have a completely computerized office including electronic medical records, so knowledge of computers and ability to type competently is a must. If you have experience with NextGen/Micromed practice management or electronic medical records this is a plus but not a requirement.

Dr. Rosenthal is highly involved in evolving technology for eye surgery and is a nationally known lecturer, and writer, a member of the editorial board of a number of prestigious publications, and holds leadership positions in several national professional organizations. Patients and other eye specialists visit Dr. Rosenthal from around the world to seek his advice, expertise and care. As such, the applicant must be poised, intelligent and capable of multitasking.

The ideal candidate may also have experience with the medical/ophthalmic/optical side of practice so that they can both participate directly in, and manage patient care directly.

The duties of the Technician will include a role as Clinical Coordinator for clinical research currently being conducted in anterior segment surgery. Proficiency in basic ophthalmic skills is essential. Experience with visual field examination, refraction, autorefractometry, corneal topography, optic nerve imaging (OCT III), IOL Master, immersion A-scan, pachymetry, slit lamp and fundus photography and videography, advanced vision testing (contrast sensitivity, glare testing, etc.) and confocal microscopy are preferred but we are willing to train the right committed individual. Require a minimum of one year of work experience at an ophthalmic or optometry practice. Experience in ophthalmic and plastic surgery procedures is a plus as well. COA or COT (or eligible to take test) is required.

Positions are available for both full and part time day positions, as well as part time evenings and weekend. We will accept applications from both full and part time individuals but flexibility of hours is needed, as well as commitment and focus while working.

OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION (SEE BELOW FOR DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR JOB OFFERING):

Helps ophthalmology patients by providing information, services, and assistance.

Duties:

  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Checks condition of patients' eyes by observing pupils, muscle, visual acuity, extraocular movements, and blood pressure.
  • Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating their pupils; reporting patient history summary, changes in visual acuity, elevated intraocular pressure, or blood pressure to ophthalmologist.
  • Saves ophthalmologist's time by helping with office procedures such as laser surgeries, tear duct probes.
  • Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders, use of drops, contact lenses, drugs, and questions about surgery.
  • Schedules surgeries by making arrangements with the surgical center; verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • Serves and protects the ophthalmology practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Enhances ophthalmology practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
